Email Configuration

Apple Mail (Leopard / Snow Leopard)

 
    If you want to change your email settings, start at #10.

    To add a new email account:
  1. Open your E-mail Client "Apple Mail"
  2. Go to "Mail > Preferences..."

  3. Click on "Accounts" at the top, then the "+" in the bottom left hand corner

  4. Enter the following with your own information:
    • Display Name: John Smith
    • Email Address: jsmith@toughcountry.net
    • Password: Your email password
    • Click "Continue"

  5. NOTE: If you disconnect from the internet (unplug the cable or turn off Airport), this process will go much faster. If Mail is still connected to the internet it will try to find the servers and can take up to 10 minutes each for the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers.

    Enter the following:
    • Account Type: POP
    • Description: John Smith - TCC
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.toughcountry.net
    • User Name: jsmith@toughcountry.net
    • Password: Your email password
    • Click "Continue"

    NOTE: A yellow exclamation mark and message is to be expected when there is no internet connection

                 Click "Continue" again
    6. Email Configuration

  6. Enter the following:
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Checked
    • Authentication: Password
    • Click "Continue"

  7. Enter the following:
    • Description: TCC Outgoing
    • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.toughcountry.net
    • Use only this server: Checked

    • Use Authentication: Checked
    • User Name: jsmith@toughcountry.net
    • Password: Your email password
    • Click "Continue"

    NOTE: A yellow exclamation mark and message is to be expected when there is no internet connection

                 Click "Continue" again
    8. Email Configuration

  8. Enter the following:
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Checked
    • Authentication: Password
    • Click "Continue"

  9. NOTE: You can now reconnect to the internet (plug in the cable or turn on Airport)

    Enter the following:
    • Take Account Online: Checked
    • Click "Create"

  10. Go to "Mail > Preferences..."

  11. Click on "Accounts", then select the account you just created.
    Under the "Account Information" tab, enter the following:
    • Password: Your email password
    • Click the drop down box under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" and select "Edit Server List..."

  12. Select the account with the "Server Name" of mail.toughcountry.net.
    Click on the "Advanced" tab, then click the "Use custom port" button and enter the following:
    • Use custom port: 465
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Checked
    • Password: Your email password
    • Authentication: Password
    • User Name: jsmith@toughcountry.net
    • Click "OK"

  13. Click the "Advanced" tab and enter the following:
    (Set SSL first before changing port numbers, as it will change the port when selected)
    • Port: 465
    • Use SSL: Checked
    • Authentication: Password

  14. Close the "Accounts" window

  15. Click "Save"
